Nutraferon CALCITRO CAP

Standard Vitamin D3 is an inactive precursor that must be converted first by the liver and then by the kidneys into calcitriol. Nutraferon CALCITRO contains pre-activated Calcitriol (0.25 mcg), making it essential for patients whose kidneys or parathyroid glands cannot complete that conversion.

Failing kidneys lose the 1-alpha-hydroxylase enzyme needed to activate Vitamin D, causing blood calcium to drop and triggering the parathyroid glands to pull calcium out of the bones (secondary hyperparathyroidism). Nutraferon CALCITRO restores active Vitamin D directly, protecting bone density and controlling PTH levels.

Never start additional calcium or Vitamin D supplements without explicit instructions from your prescribing physician. Because Calcitriol powerfully increases intestinal calcium and phosphate absorption, unmonitored supplementation can cause dangerous hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and vascular calcification.

Yes. Patients on renal dialysis must avoid magnesium-containing antacids or laxatives while taking Calcitriol due to the risk of severe hypermagnesemia. Additionally, thiazide diuretics increase hypercalcemia risk, hypercalcemia can precipitate digitalis/digoxin arrhythmias, and bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine) or cytochrome P450 inducers (phenytoin, phenobarbital) can reduce calcitriol efficacy.

Early symptoms of hypercalcemia include excessive thirst (polydipsia), frequent urination (polyuria), constipation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, metallic taste, muscle weakness, and confusion. Contact your doctor promptly for a blood calcium check if these occur.
