Directions of Use & Safety Information

Critical Reconstitution & Diluent Rules (Pharmacist Alert):
- For IV Infusion: Reconstitute and dilute exclusively in 0.9% Sodium Chloride (Normal Saline). NEVER dilute or mix Ertapenem in Dextrose/Glucose solutions or co-infuse with other medications.
- For IM Injection: Reconstitute with 0% Lidocaine HCl injection (without epinephrine) for deep gluteal/thigh muscle injection; never administer lidocaine-reconstituted solutions intravenously.
Hemodialysis Timing Tip: Ideally administer the 500 mg dose after the hemodialysis session; if administered within 6 hours prior to hemodialysis, a supplemental dose of 150 mg is recommended post-dialysis.
